Moses Lake Ice Rink opening delayed
The Moses Lake Ice Rink will open at 4:15 p.m. Nov. 19 instead of Nov. 12 because the weather has been too warm, according to city spokesperson Lynne Lynch.
“We need colder temperatures to create ice,” she wrote in an email.
The entire Moses Lake Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department works around the clock for about half a week to build the ice at 610 S. Yakima Ave. every year, according to a release from the city.
The rink will be next to the construction of the new Larson Recreation Center.
“We’re excited to be able to open this year, as we’ve had to make many accommodations and changes due to the construction of the new recreation center, where the former batting cages and parking lot once sat,” recreation supervisor Tom Los said in the release. “Our skate shack has been moved inside of the covered area next to the ice rink and we ask that guests park in the Larson ballfield parking lot.”
Ice rink admission for a 90-minute session for adults is $4, $3 for ages 5-17 and 65 and older and free for ages 4 and younger. Skate rental is $6 for all ages. Season passes also are available at mlrec.com or at the rink, when it opens. Entrance fees will only be available on site for the 90-minute sessions, which are every day except for hockey nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Season passes are sold online or at the rink.
The entrance prices are the same as the 2019-2020 season, the release stated, which is less than last season at a flat $10 per session.
Open ice skating hours will be 4-7 p.m. Mondays, 4-8 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 2-8 p.m. Saturdays and 2-6 p.m. Sundays. However, special hours of operation will be Nov. 25 to Feb. 21.
Ice skating lessons begin Monday evenings on Nov. 22 and are $50 for six 30-minute lessons. The Moses Lake Youth Hockey Association offers leagues for ages 4-17 beginning Nov. 20. For information, call Ryan Porter at 509-750-1070.
Beginning Hockey, Stick & Puck and Adult Hockey also will be offered.
