Filing week opens for candidates in election
EPHRATA — Port of Moses Lake Commissioner Kent Jones will have a challenger for his seat, one candidate has filed for an open seat on the Moses Lake School District Board, and a member of the Mattawa City Council has filed for the mayor’s job.
Monday was the first day of candidate filing week for the 2021 election, which continues through Friday. Jones will be challenged by Kris Dexter of Moses Lake.
Sun Hwang, currently on the Mattawa City Council, has filed for the position of Mattawa mayor. The incumbent mayor is Maria Celaya, who was appointed in November 2020. Whoever is elected mayor will serve for two years, the remainder of the current term.
Rachel Roylance Gallachi has filed for Position 4 on the MLSD board. The incumbent is Elliott Goodrich, who announced earlier this year he didn’t plan to run for reelection.
Incumbent Royal City Mayor Kent Anderson filed for reelection for a four-year term. Ephrata Mayor Bruce Reim also filed for a new term, and so did Othello Mayor Shawn Logan.
Longtime Quincy School Board member Tricia Lubach also filed for another term, and incumbent Donald Clark filed for reelection to the Soap Lake School Board. All three incumbents on the Othello School Board, Jenn Stevenson, Ken Johnson and Lindsy Prows, have filed for reelection.
Dave Dormaier has filed for Quincy City Council, Position 5, currently held by David Day. Kayleen Bryson filed for Soap Lake City Council, Position 4, currently held by Deb Still. Incumbent Quincy council member Andrew Royer filed for a new term. So did Ephrata City Council incumbent Matt Moore and Othello City Council incumbent Genna Dorow.
Incumbent Port of Ephrata Commissioner Karen Moore has filed for reelection, as did incumbent Port of Quincy Commissioner Brian Kuest. Deena Vietzke, incumbent on the Port of Othello Commission, filed for a new term.
Incumbent Grant County Fire District 7 (Soap Lake) Commissioner Kyle Duffey also filed for reelection.
Incumbent Lynda Bowers filed for a new term on the Othello Community Hospital Commission.
