Steve H. Smith

| May 6, 2021 1:00 AM

On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Steve H. Smith was called home at the age of 82. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the illness, Steve came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

Steve was born in a small town of Arnett, Oklahoma, to Samuel and Beulah Smith and was next to the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters.

After moving to Moses Lake in 1957 with his family, he met and married his beautiful bride and wife of 46 years, Earlene, while she was working at a local diner as a waitress.

In 1960, Steve began his lifetime work as a heavy equipment operator, working on construction jobs all over Eastern Washington, and was a proud member of Operating Engineers Union Local No. 370.

Steve enjoyed raising cattle and gardening. He always grew more than he needed so he could share with his neighbors. He liked going out dancing on Saturday nights and watching football on Sunday, rooting for his Seahawks.

Steve is preceded in death by his wife Earlene and his parents Samuel and Beulah. He is survived by his sons Dave and Glenn, and grandkids Caitlin and Tyler.

A special thank you to the people at Samaritan Hospital, Assured Hospice and Kayser’s Chapel of Memories for your care and support.

At Steve’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to help fight Alzheimer’s.
