Mattawa City Hall reopens

MATTAWA — Mattawa City Hall reopened to the public on Monday, after the Mattawa City Council approved it during a meeting March 18.

“We’re excited to open our doors and a little nervous,” said Anabel Martinez, Mattawa City Clerk. “We’re excited to see our customers again.”

As part of the reopening process, masks and face coverings will be required by all people entering the building and a six-foot separation must be maintained between customers and staff. Temperature and health screening assessments will be conducted on all staff members. Hand sanitizer and a handwashing station in the restroom are also being provided.

City hall staff will clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces, such as customer payment counters, copiers, door handles, restrooms and common areas. When asked about how often cleaning would take place, Martinez said it would happen during slow times of the day.

“We do have some down time throughout the day,” Martinez said. “There is a rush hour, then it slows down.”

The Mattawa City Hall reopening plan was approved by the Grant County Health Department.

At this point, city council meetings will continue virtually. The city is not able to hold meetings in person and provide the live streaming required by COVID-19 protocols. Meeting agendas are posted at city hall and on the city’s Facebook page.

Anyone who is sick is asked not to come into the office, but call or drop off payments in the drop box. COVID-19 symptoms include cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore through and a new loss of smell or taste.
