A Moses Lake man was summoned to appear in court for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.

Christopher H. Weitman, 47, was charged Feb. 8 with third-degree rape, after Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Feb. 5 to a home on Lowry Street on a report of a sexual assault. The girl’s out-of-state friend notified dispatch of the assault, records stated, after the girl texted the friend.

The girl told deputies she “froze” when Weitman sexually assaulted her several times in his room. She also said she didn’t know why it was happening. Weitman apparently asked multiple times during the assaults if “it was okay,” but the girl said she didn’t respond.

Weitman’s first appearance is slated for 9 a.m. Monday in the Grant County Courthouse.
