April 13, 1937 – June 16, 2021

Leora Black, of Moses Lake, Washington, passed away on June 16, 2021. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She led a full and productive life with all of its many gifts.

Leora was born to her parents, Fletcher and Eva Batts, on April 13, 1937, in Seattle, Washington, and had three sisters. She was married to her wonderful husband, Jim Black, for nearly 46 years and had four beautiful children, 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Leora and her husband lost their beautiful second-born daughter, Sherri Rodgers, tragically in 2012 and a beautiful grandson, Zachary Hubbard, tragically in 2011. Leora married her husband’s brother, Jesse Black, a couple of years later after losing her beloved Jim and was married to Jesse for another six years. Her homes have all been in Washington state, including Seattle, Skagit County, Bridgeport, Quincy, Moses Lake and lastly East Wenatchee, where she passed away.

Leora worked many jobs in her life. She was a devoted wife and mother first, did secretarial work, waitressed for many years and did small self-employed jobs and retail store work. Leora was such a hard, devoted worker and people loved her. Her personality was bright, thoughtful, diligent and so sweet. She loved beauty, tending her flower beds, yard and home and traveling. In the later part of her life, Leora battled with her health, but always kept a positive attitude, wanting to regain her health and bounce back. Her anchor in her heart and life was knowing her Savior, Jesus Christ, and she was such a lighthouse to many with her faith. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Moses Lake and loved going to church all her life. Leora had so many memories of her own and could tell them with such “sparkle” and detail!

Her surviving family is: daughter Mary Hubbard of Eureka, Montana, son Dave Black of East Wenatchee, Washington, daughter JoAnn McCombs of San Diego, California, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren “sprinkled” in Snohomish County, Washington; Fife, Washington; Idaho, California and Montana. We all, as her beloved family, will miss our beautiful mother, grandmother and friend.

Leora’s memorial service will be June 29, 2021, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Moses Lake, Washington, at 11 a.m. Please join us in celebrating and giving honor to this beautiful woman’s life.
