Banners will honor Chief Moses in Sinkiuse Square
The Downtown Moses Lake Association and Colville Business Council will have a Chief Moses Banner Unveiling Ceremony at 11 a.m. June 30 at Sinkiuse Square (306 S. Ash St., Moses Lake).
The banners are meant to be a unique addition to the square and celebrate Chief Moses, after whom Moses Lake was named, according to a press release from the DMLA. Chief Moses was the leader of the Sinkiuse-Columbia tribe.
The DMLA proposed the idea in the summer of 2020.
“The installation at Sinkiuse Square demonstrates a way of honoring the (tribes) and showing appreciation to those whose territory present day residents now reside on,” said Colville Business Council Chairman Rodney Cawston in a statement.
A variety of speakers and community leaders are expected to attend the unveiling.
