Moses Lake girl dies in California collision
A 7-year-old Moses Lake girl was killed in an automobile collision Sunday near Edwards Air Force Base, east of Rosamond, California.
Jason Blais of the California Highway Patrol said the girl was a passenger in a car driven by Wendy Garcia, 35, of Moses Lake. Garcia was driving toward the base’s west gate, Blais said, when the car came to a security lane and barriers.
“There was no slowing down (at the barriers),” Blais said.
Garcia lost control of the car, and it rolled.
Riding in the car were five children, none of whom were wearing seat belts, he said. Garcia was wearing a seat belt.
Four of the children were ejected, including the 7-year-old girl. All six occupants were transported to local hospitals, Blais said. One of the children was still in critical condition as of Wednesday.
Garcia and her children reportedly were in the area visiting family in the Rosamond area.
Blais said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
