Chipsealing project slated for Othello
OTHELLO — Chipsealing on a number of Othello streets begins Wednesday and will continue through Aug. 6.
City engineer Shawn O’Brien said about 6.5 miles of city streets will be chipsealed. Some portions will get two layers of material across the entire street, others will get one layer across the entire street, and others will be resurfaced across the travel lanes.
Drivers will not be allowed to park on the street while the work is underway in areas where the whole street is being resurfaced. Residents will receive a notice the day before work begins on that street, O’Brien said.
Chipsealing consists of a layer of rock, sealed in place with oil. O’Brien said street sweepers will remove the loose rock within 24 hours of its application, and the surfaces will have a couple of days to cure. Then a top layer will be applied as the finish, he said.
Ephrata-based Tommer Construction will do the work. Total project cost is estimated at $520,000.
