Chiefs honored with Big 9 All-League nods

MOSES LAKE — The Columbia Basin Big 9 Athletic Conference recently named all-league selections for winter sports, including athletes from the Moses Lake High School Chiefs bowling, wrestling, swim and basketball teams.

In swimming, Zach Washburn was named First Team in the 100- yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle events. Cole Lindberg was named to the First Team in the 100-yard butterfly in addition to Honorable Mention in the 50-yard backstroke. Ryan Jorgensen took Second Team honors in the 50-yard freestyle, while teammate Ashton McKean garnered Honorable Mention in the same event. Issac Patten took Second Team in the 100-yard freestyle and honorable mention in the 100 backstroke.

Damien Paluch received a Second Team nod in the 200-yard freestyle. Nicholas Moore got Second Team honors for the 500-yard freestyle and honorable mention in the 200 freestyle. Jared Grant got Second Team honors in the 50-yard freestyle adaptive event and honorable mention in the 50-yard backstroke adaptive event.

Caleb Anderson was named to Second Team in the 50-yard backstroke adaptive event. The Moses Lake 200 medley relay team of Patten, Washburn, Lindberg and Jorgensen received First Team honors, the 200 freestyle relay team of Jorgensen, Moore, McKean and Kade Pack was named Second Team and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Patten, McKean, Lindberg and Washburn received First Team honors.

In girls basketball, Anna Olson and Meagan Karstetter were named First Team All-League selections, while teammate Olivia Waites was named to the Second Team. Olson was also named to the All-Defense team, with Waites and Karstetter received honorable mention honors as well.

Marshall Tibbs picked up a Second Team selection for boys basketball. In bowling, Haley Rogers received a Second Team nod.

For boys wrestling, the Chiefs weren’t able to bring their entire roster, as some players were finishing up exams at Big Bend Community College for the Running Start Program the same day.

Dayton Regan received First Team honors at 126 pounds. Derek Grubb (138), Brock Clark (182), Joey Freidig (195) and Saul Villa (285) received Honorable Mention.
