COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Grant, Adams counties

MOSES LAKE/OTHELLO — The number of COVID-19 cases in Grant and Adams counties continues to rise.

In the past month, the number of cases in Grant County rose from 6,428 cases Dec. 21 to 8,071 cases Jan. 25. The number of deaths in the past month went from 73 to 98. Ten possible COVID-19-related deaths are pending review. Fifteen patients are hospitalized, while the number of patients who have recovered is 6,434.

The number of Royal City residents with COVID-19 increased by 79 cases, for a total of 514. The number of cases in the Mattawa area rose from 701 Dec. 21 to 909 Jan. 25. The rural area of Othello, located in Grant County, is now 132, compared to 111 last month.

Throughout the county, Warden increased to 53 cases, for a total of 398. Ephrata increased from 546 cases to 719 cases. Soap Lake added 45 cases, for a total of 190. The Quincy area went from 1,352 cases at the end of December to 1,664 cases Monday. Moses Lake had the highest increase, with 726 new cases, for a total of 3,435 cases.

The areas north and east of Soap Lake had the smallest number of case increases. The Coulee City area increased from 38 to 53 cases in the past month, while the Wilson Creek area went from 14 to 21 cases. The Grand Coulee area had the smallest number of new cases, adding only four in the past month, for a total of 27 cases.

Of the 8,071 reported cases in Grant County, 4,069 are male and 3,986 are female. Of those, 1,302 are ages 18 years old and younger. In the 19- to 40-year-old range, there were 3,481 reported cases. Of those 41 to 60 years old, there were 2,217 cases. Eight hundred eighty-one cases were in those 61 to 80 years old. Of those older than age 80, there were 170 reported cases.

The Grant County Health District updates the number of reported cases on its website each weekday evening. Not all numbers may add up due to reported cases that may be under investigation.

In Adams County, the number of COVID-19 cases rose from 1,654 Dec. 21 to 1847 on Jan. 25. During that time, no new deaths were reported and no one is hospitalized. Currently, 1,675 patients have recovered.

So far, Adams County has performed 8,982 tests. Of those, 6,841 have been negative, with 78 tests pending.

Of those who tested positive for COVID-19, 336 were 19 years old or younger. Six hundred eighty-five are 20 to 39 years old. Of those 40 to 59 years old, 533 tested positive. There were 248 cases in those 60 to 79 years old. Forty-five cases were reported in those 80 years old and older. Nine hundred two cases were males and 945 cases were females.

In the past month, the number of cases in Othello increased from 1,547 on Dec. 21 to 1,703 on Jan. 25. Ritzville had an increase of 25 cases for a total of 98. The number of cases in Lind jumped from 12 to 21. Hatton had two new cases for a total of 18. Washtucna and Benge each had one new case, bringing Washtucna to five cases and Benge to two cases.
