Sheriff's office warns of impersonators
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a man and woman posing as a sheriff’s deputy and Child Protective Services worker who visited a home Monday in the 14000 block of Road 4 Northeast, just outside of Moses Lake.
The pair told the homeowner they were checking on the children in the home and asked to enter, according to an advisory from the sheriff’s office.
The resident was going to let them in, but he got suspicious when the woman returned to the car to sit in the driver’s seat. The homeowner then told the man, who claimed he was a sheriff’s deputy, he was getting his gun and not to enter the home. When he returned, the pair was gone.
The sheriff’s office said it was likely the two were impersonating officials to get inside “for reasons yet unknown, but possibly to lay the groundwork for committing future crimes at the home.”
The man has a light brown complexion, is six-foot-two-inches, with brown hair in a crew cut, and was clean-shaven.
He was wearing a black polo shirt without logos, tactical-style pants and black shoes. He had aviator sunglasses and a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
The woman has a light complexion, is about 170 pounds, with long, brown hair and was wearing a black dress with thick shoulder straps.
They drove a gray Chevrolet Impala with an unknown license plate. No images or video of the incident were available.
Anyone contacted by those matching the descriptions is advised to inspect their official credentials, the sheriff’s office stated. If in doubt, call dispatch at 509-762-1160.
