Stocks open higher, bond yields rise ahead of Biden speech
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening higher on Wall Street as investors look ahead to a speech later Thursday in which President-elect Joe Biden is expected to provide more details on the incoming administration’s plans for more help for the coronavirus-ravaged economy. The S&P 500 index was up 0.3% in the early going, and Treasury yields were moving higher again. They’ve been rising sharply since the beginning of the year as investors expect more government spending, economic growth and possibly inflation in the months ahead. European markets were higher and Asian markets closed mixed overnight. Crude oil prices were slighlty lower.
