HOTTEST YEAR — Charts. Digital embeds for two charts. One shows the yearly global temperatures compared to the 20th century average of 57 degrees Fahrenheit. The second shows the ranking by heat of years. Scientists say 2020 was either the hottest year on record or a close second. These charts is current as of Jan. 14, 2020, and will be periodically updated. Sources: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other authorities listed in the charts.
