US sanctions controversial deputy of Iraqi paramilitaries

BAGHDAD (AP) — The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on an influential Iraqi militia leader and deputy of a powerful Iran-backed umbrella of mostly Shiite paramilitary groups, designating him a global terrorist figure.
