The Nation's Weather for Tuesday, January 5, 2021

_____

NATIONAL SUMMARY

The storm responsible for the snow and ice in portions of

the Northeast over the weekend will stall out several

hundred miles off the New England coast tomorrow. The storm

may sit close enough to the coast to bring light snow to the

region. Meanwhile, weak disturbances high in the atmosphere

will generate flurries or snow showers from the upper Great

Lakes to the southern and central Appalachians. High

pressure anchored over the Mississippi Valley will promote

dry weather with some sunshine across most of the Central

and Southern states. Mild air is forecast to build across

the Plains ahead of a storm poised to bring snow to the

northern and central Rockies this day. The Pacific Northwest

will only get a brief break between storms before another

onslaught of rain and snow arrives late in the afternoon.
