David Charles Brush

| February 25, 2021 1:00 AM

David Charles Brush of Ephrata, Washington, beloved son of Charlene Brush of Richland and Donavin Brush of Ephrata, lost his battle with drug addiction by taking his own life Friday, Feb. 12.

Prior to embarking on his deadly affair with marijuana, he had been a successful actor at Soap Lake’s Masquers Theater. He was a rap music aficionado who explained the evolution of the genre with such eloquence that he made it sound interesting even to the uninitiated. He enjoyed playing outside, swimming in Grant County’s many lakes, and hiking in desert or mountain. He had a lightning sense of humor, once quipping to a friend, “you’re not clever enough to insult me.” He adored his dogs, Gunar and Heidi (whom he called, “Heidi-Heidi Chub-Chub”) as well as his several cats and his calf. He liked to help people and was generous with his money and that of his parents. David elected to be an organ donor. His pancreas, each kidney, each lung, and his beautiful heart have given life to 6 people.

When in his right mind he enjoyed hanging out with his dad, his mom and any and all family. Not even a year ago he said, “I was thinking how I wish people could get just how really cool my parents are.” David wanted to stop using drugs and made several attempts, but when Gov. Jay Inslee completely destroyed all infrastructure that could support our state’s most vulnerable kids lest Grandma catch her death of cold, the safety net that might have caught him in his fall completely vanished.

He is survived by his mother and father, his grandmother Jean, and aunts and uncles, as well as by his best girl, Olivia. David’s family and friends, of whom he had many, will hurt for the duration of this life. We pray that God, the Father of Mercy, has received this poor, suffering child into His Heavenly Kingdom.

His funeral will be held Friday, March 5, at 11 a.m., with Rosary at 10:30, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Ephrata, with burial service immediately following in the Ephrata Cemetery. Priority seating in the church will be given to family, closest friends, and people traveling from out of town. Gifts of remembrance may be made to Masquers Theater of Soap Lake, St. Rose of Lima School in Ephrata, or Elijah Family Homes (helping recovering addicts transition to independent sober living) in Richland, Washington.
