OTHELLO — Othello Parks and Recreation Coordinator Randy Gomez announced his resignation, but Othello Mayor Shawn Logan said the city should continue its spring sports schedule.

Gomez outlined the proposed schedule for Othello City Council members at Monday’s council meeting. Adams County is in Phase 2 of the reopening plan imposed by Gov. Jay Inslee, which allows some outdoor activities, so the city will sponsor a program, Gomez said.

The city will offer flag football, soccer and Little League baseball, Gomez said, but social distancing protocols will be required.

Spectators not part of the participants’ immediate family will be allowed, but will have to watch from a designated area, Gomez said. Spectators and families will have to wear masks, and players will have to be masked when they’re off the field.

Council members approved the schedule, then Gomez announced he took another job and Monday was his last council meeting.
