OTHELLO — The Othello School District will sell land it owns along Lee Street in Othello.

Othello School Board members approved a resolution announcing their intent to sell at the Feb. 8 board meeting, following a public hearing.

“The board has determined that the property is no longer needed for school purposes, in that the property will not be used for school purposes for the foreseeable future,” the resolution said.

The property is between North 14th Avenue and North Seventh Avenue along Lee Street. The school district bought the 81.14 acres in 2016 for $2.43 million.

The district’s superintendent, Chris Hurst, said during the hearing the district didn’t have a potential buyer. Inquiries about the property should be directed to the superintendent’s office, Hurst said. The sale will be by closed bid.

Othello district voters rejected a construction bond proposal in 2017 that would have funded a new middle school and elementary school on the site.
