GRANGER — While Ephrata High School, Quincy High School and Royal High School were busy at the Wilbur-Ellis SunDome Shootout, the Wahluke High School boys basketball team participated in a two-day tournament in Granger.

On Tuesday, Wahluke matched up against Sunnyside Christian High School. Wahluke head coach Clayton Buck said his team had a slow start, managing to score only six points to Sunnyside Christian’s 15 in the first quarter.

Buck said that set the tone for an off night for the Warriors. The final score was Waluke 44 to Sunnyside Christian’s 56.

Wahluke freshman River Buck was the game’s top scorer with 14 points. Junior Max Urrutia was close behind with 11 points.

On Wednesday, the Warriors took on Mabton High School. The Warriors came out on top with a final score of Wahluke 59 and Mabton 37.

Buck said the Warriors played well as a team against Mabton.

“The game was controlled by Warrior defense, which provided a lot of scoring opportunities, and the boys shot well throughout the game,” Buck said.

Wahluke junior Orlando Nunez scored a game high of 16 points.
