The Quincy High School Lady Jack wrestlers battled at Ephrata High School on Tuesday with nearly every QHS wrestler taking home at least one win.

Quincy head girls wrestling coach Devan Silva called the tournament a successful night of wrestling. He explained the team is continuing to get its toughest and most experienced athletes the matches they need to continue to grow and hopefully make it to the Tacoma Dome, while allowing its newer athletes the exposure and mat time they need to grow. Silva said all of his athletes have a drive and willingness to learn, from the returning athletes all the way down to the newest wrestlers.

“After matches, win or lose, all of them are ready to talk, drill, or study film to fine tune things and that is essential to growth; not just as individuals in the sport, but as a team for generations of Lady Jacks,” Silva said. “I love where we sit right now and look forward to how much we can peak by February.”

The results Tuesday for the Lady Jacks were:

• Freshman Citlali Diaz 0-3

• Sophomore Allison Guerrero 2-0

• Sophomore Michelle Acevedo 2-1

• Junior Karla Osorio 2-0

• Junior Ashley Rosas 1-2

• Senior Daisy Ramirez 1- 1

• Senior Leslie Carrillo 1-1

• Senior Alba Palacios 1-1

• Senior “Duckie” Shannon Workinger 2-0

• Senior Divinna Munoz 2-1

On Dec. 14, the Lady Jacks went to the Grandview Mixer at Grandview High School. Silva said QHS took 10 wrestlers and some of the wrestlers made their debut for the Quincy program against at least eight other schools at the tournament. The team of 10 wrestled a total of 16 matches, winning 11 of them.

“It was a great showing for the team and the girls looked consistently tough and have demonstrated substantial growth from our first tournament,” Silva said.

Silva also said he doesn’t anticipate shutting down the season early.

“We are ready for anything, of course, but Quincy’s focus is forward,” Silva said. “We do the right things with regards to our health and keep our forward momentum full tilt to the finish line regardless of what hurdles present themselves.”

The Lady Jacks’ next match is Dec. 30 at Hanford High School for the Hanford High School Winter Cup Tournament.
