Marcia Chase Wood

| December 20, 2021 1:00 AM

Marcia Chase Wood, 80, passed away peacefully on the evening of Dec. 4 with family by her side. She is survived by her two sons, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren and the love of her life, Chris Wood.

She grew up in Salem, Oregon, in the 1950s, with her best friend Ricki. She married Ricki’s brother Chris in August of 1963. They moved to Bellevue, Washington, after earning her bachelor’s degree. She reared her two sons Eric and Kurtis. She was their soccer coach, Scout leader, teacher and mentor. Marcia taught them morals, manners, and civic responsibility. She loved them immeasurably.

She was highly involved with St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in choir and volunteering. She was a substitute teacher, bailiff and HR coordinator at King County Superior Court.

Marcia and Chris moved back down to Oregon, this time to Redmond, Oregon, where she quickly immersed herself in the local art and concert scene and the Sisters Epsicopal Church of the Transfiguration.

They moved up to Moses Lake, Washington, to be closer to grandchildren, play golf and be active members at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.

After suffering a stroke she recovered but precipitated an eventual decline to dementia. These past few years we had lost our dear mom and grandma who had been so vibrant.

She had lost her passion for art, gardening, singing, and inquiring with her family. She has been missed, but now she is back with her entire Chase family.

She is survived by her oldest son Eric K. Wood and wife Danielle K. Wood, along with children Annalise, Theodore and Naomi; and her youngest son Kurtis J. Wood and wife Heather K. Wood, and children Mikayla and Paige.

The service will be Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, located at 605 Commercial St., in Salem, Oregon.
