Grant County Fire District 7 announced Wednesday it received a grant from the Paul Lauzier Foundation for new pagers for the members of the all-volunteer department.

A press release from the district stated the grant fulfilled a critical need for the department, covering the cost for the department to get new Motorola pagers, as the pagers it had were more than 20 years old.

The new pagers are more reliable, can stay charged longer and provide crisp and clear communications, the release said. The pagers are how members of the department receive notifications of 911 calls and information about each incident.

GCFD7 provides fire protection and basic emergency medical services and covers a total of 158 square miles between the city of Soap Lake and north central Grant County.

“Grant County Fire District 7 is very grateful to the Paul Lauzier Foundation for their charitable giving and for their support of the Soap Lake community,” the release stated.
