Othello bicyclist struck by ambulance, flown to hospital
An Othello bicyclist was injured Wednesday evening on state Route 26, near Othello, when he was struck by an ambulance, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Marco A. Martinez, 29, was bicycling westbound on state Route 26, just before 5:29 p.m., when he allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way, crossed into the westbound lane, and was struck by the ambulance.
Martinez came to rest on the westbound shoulder, while the ambulance stopped in the westbound lane.
Martinez was flown to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for his injuries.
The driver of the ambulance, Wayne S. Allen, 48, of Seattle, and his passenger, Jon K. Brennan, 51, of Auburn, were not injured. Both wore seat belts.
Allen may face charges if the WSP files them with the Adams County Prosecutor’s Office, which then would decide whether to proceed.
