New CBH reporter ready for another adventure
Hello there!
I just started here at the Columbia Basin Herald and wanted to take the time to introduce myself.
My wife and I are in the process of moving from Katy, Texas, just outside of Houston, to Moses Lake and we’re excited about this new adventure.
I grew up in Trout Creek, Montana, about four hours away from here in the Clark Fork River valley. In 1996, I joined the Army and had the privilege of serving in Maryland, Germany and Texas, before I got out of the military in 2000.
That was before the era of Indeed, Monster and other job-hunting sites, so I found work in Austin and stayed for quite a while, working for a military contractor, in banking, for the state and eventually for small papers, after obtaining my journalism degree from Texas State University.
I later moved to Katy and worked to inform readers there regarding issues that are similar to those anyone in Grant and Adams counties would be familiar with. Rapid growth, a challenging housing market, severe weather, city and county government – and a bit of entertainment because we all need to play on occasion.
I believe a reporter’s job is to inform the public without putting their two cents into the mix. Straight facts provided to readers help a community thrive and make better decisions in the marketplace of ideas our founding fathers envisioned when they penned the First Amendment, which ensures freedom of the press.
I’m really happy to be back in the Pacific Northwest, with four seasons, mountains and people who work hard, play harder and take care of one another. If you happen to see a bald redheaded fella with a press pass out and about, please feel free to walk up and say hello. Tell me about a news tip, give me feedback on the stories I write and let’s get to know one another.
I’m here to serve and happy to be here.
