Aaron George Miles

| December 8, 2021 1:00 AM

August 18, 1975 – November 21, 2021

Aaron George Miles passed away peacefully following a short illness Nov. 21, 2021. He was born Aug. 18, 1975, in Britton, South Dakota, to George and Kathleen Miles.

Aaron grew up in Britton, South Dakota, a small rural town rich in family history. He attended elementary school there until his family moved to Moses Lake, Washington, in 1989. He then attended Frontier Junior High. After graduating from Moses Lake High School, he attended Big Bend Community College, Eastern Washington University in Cheney, and ultimately The Art Institute in Seattle, where he met his wife Rebecca McGee. They were married in Seattle on June 22, 2000. They lived for a time in Seattle; Las Vegas; Kansas City, Missouri; Portland, Oregon, and finally in Spokane. Their daughter Midori was born in 2011. They were divorced in 2015.

Aaron and Midori’s favorite things to do together were to watch movies, draw on the iPad and play video games. Midori was Aaron‘s life and he reveled in being her daddy.

Aaron was a loyal friend and a great listener. He always made time for those he cared about. A true child of the ’80s, he loved hanging out with his friends and watching movies like “Back to the Future” and “The Goonies.” He was the kind of person with whom you could always be yourself. He was intelligent, incredibly creative and had a curious open mind. A kind-hearted, loving man with a sharp wit, he was a genuinely good person. He loved art and astronomy, but his greatest love was music. Having synesthesia, where he not only heard the sounds, but saw colors, he excelled at communicating that love. He touched the hearts of many people around the world and was part of a massive online family as a moderator of The Orb Music and Mixes. His impact was widespread.

To quote an Orb participant friend, who called him brother, “He was funny yet stupid, intelligent yet thick, sad but always happy.”

All that matters in the end is that you truly loved. In that realm Aaron was a wild success. Rest in peace, Aaron, you had a life well lived.

Aaron is survived by his loving daughter, Midori Mae Miles, whom he often called “Munchkin,” of Spokane; his mother Kathleen Atkinson Miles, of Moses Lake; his sister Gretchen Wade, of California and his nephew Scotty Wade, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Having a large family, he is survived by several aunts and uncles and a multitude of cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother in 1969; his father George Miles in 2017; his paternal grandparents Jim and Bonnie Miles of Britton, South Dakota, in 2009 and 2002, respectively; and his maternal grandparents Dave and Rose Atkinson of Britton, South Dakota, in 1959 and 1980, respectively.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. in Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, Washington. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
