On Nov. 28, 2021, Lucinda Schaat West, 68, beloved wife, mother and sister, completed her journey here on earth. Lucinda was born Dec. 11, 1952, to Frank and Dorothy Schaat in St. Anthony, Idaho. She was the second-born of five siblings.
She graduated from Moses Lake High School, where she met the love her life, Bill West, in drivers ed. He asked to borrow a pencil and she was smitten from that moment on. They were married on Dec. 28, 1971, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Seattle, Washington, Temple.
Panama was their first home after Bill enlisted in the military. Columbus, Georgia, was their next stop and where their first child was born, Amy Lucinda. After moving back to Washington, while living in Tacoma and after many difficult years of trying, Sarah Dorothy came into the world. Her stay on earth was short as she returned to heaven four days later. Not long after, they were blessed with another girl, Emily Katlyn, thus completing their family. Two years later, they returned to Moses Lake, where they remained for the last 35 years.
Lucinda worked as an administrative assistant for Basic American Foods and Clifton Larson Allen for a majority of her working years. She remains good friends with many of the coworkers she had during her employment. She added a bright smile and friendly demeanor to every place she worked. She loved to make people feel welcome and special.
She loved to serve in her community and was active for several years alongside her husband with the Moses Lake Rodeo Roundup. She formed and treasured long-lasting friendships with the other wives of the rodeo association members.
She volunteered on the Miss Moses Lake Pageant committee, being a former contestant herself. She was an active Toastmasters member for many years, and spent over 30 years involved with the Grant County Republican Party.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in various capacities, always ready and willing to provide meals and treats for anyone in need.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother; father- and mother-in-law Windy and Dorothy West; sister Frances Fancher and sister-in-law Kim West, as well as her daughter Sarah. She is survived by her husband Bill; daughters Amy (Eric) Breitenstein and Emily (Michael) Duvall; and siblings Jennifer (Al) Merritt, Pete (Betty) Schaat and Elaine Williams.
