Peter Christopher Meyer, Jr.

Peter C. Meyer, Jr. was born Aug. 28, 1940, to Peter and Emma Mae (Alberts) Meyer, on the family farm near Davis, South Dakota, the second of five children. He grew up on this farm in Turner County and participated in Turner County Presbyterian Church, Davis, South Dakota. He passed away Nov. 1, 2021, at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, Washington.

Peter attended Middleton District No. 23 School the first eight years and then Hurley High School, graduating in 1958. While he attended Yankton College, he worked in a bakery and learned the bakery trade. Peter worked as a baker for 37 years in numerous places, including Mitchell, South Dakota; Coralville, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lacrosse, Wisconsin; and Three Forks, Montana. Wheat Montana Bakery in Three Forks was fortunate to have Peter help them improve its products and was honored to break a Guinness World Record in 1995 for the fastest field-to-loaf product. After retiring from the bakery business, Peter became a piano technician for 22 years in the Moses Lake, Washington, area after his move there in 1999. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Moses Lake.

Throughout his life, music was very important to Peter. He enjoyed listening to various styles, singing and playing the guitar, as well as other stringed instruments. Among his other interests were bowling, piloting a small plane, photography, oil painting and keeping in touch with family and friends at reunions and family gatherings.

Peter is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joan. He is survived by a sister Viola Eden of Liberty Lake, Washington; two brothers Robert (Florene) Meyer of Lennox, South Dakota; and Stan (Sharon) Meyer of Moses Lake, Washington; three nieces, Pam (Terry) Plimpton of Lennox, South Dakota; Dawn (Dale) Froese of McPherson, Kansas; and Faith (Steve) Penner of Windom, Kansas; one nephew Reed Meyer of Moses Lake, Washington; two great nieces Ashley (Matt) Plucker and their two children, Lane and Kellie, Lennox of South Dakota, and Hannah Froese of McPherson, Kansas; and two great-nephews Caleb Froese of Phoenix, Arizona; and Devin Penner of Windom, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life will be Dec. 9, 2021, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Moses Lake, Washington. Interment will be at a later date in Turner County Presbyterian Cemetery, Davis, South Dakota.
