Moses Lake mulls same Stratford Road bid

MOSES LAKE — The city of Moses Lake has again received only one bid to complete the construction work along Stratford Road.

According to Lynne Lynch, a spokesperson for the city, Central Washington Asphalt — the same company that submitted a bid in July — bid $680,000 to finish the work abandoned in April when the previous contractor, C&R Tractor and Landscaping, defaulted on the contract.

“We have the exact same bid from the exact same bidder,” said City Manager Allison Williams.

The original bid from Central Washington Asphalt was originally rejected because it was higher than the city’s estimate of $420,000.

In an email to the Columbia Basin Herald, Lynch wrote the city “cannot comment yet” on whether Central Washington Asphalt will be awarded the contract, but the hope is to have the work start “no later than the second half of September,” as asphalt production for the year typically ceases in November.

Work remaining to be done along Stratford Road involves more than two dozen things, from getting all of the traffic lights working properly, striping the lanes of traffic, cleaning and grouting storm drains to grinding asphalt down so it is level with the gutter and installation of curb ramps and landscaping.

However, Williams said city workers have done a little work, filling in portions of the sidewalks at the intersection with Valley Road to make the intersection safer.

“So we’ve had a working intersection for this interim period,” she said.
