The Downtown Moses Lake Association (DMLA) is concluding its summer event series with Summer Street on 3rd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 14 at 306 Ash St., and a Downtown Open Mic Night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the same location, Sinkiuse Square. Events are free and open to the whole family.

For Summer Street, Third Avenue shuts down to motorists to make way for yoga with O2 Studio at 9:15 a.m., storytime with the Moses Lake Public Library at 10:30 a.m., lawn games, outdoor dining and more.

Local musician Willie Holmes will take to Sinkiuse Square from noon to 3 p.m. to play classic rock, blues, pop, funk and jazz. Many of the businesses along Third Avenue, such as Stella & Me and Love & Lumber, will have promotions, which is a good opportunity to mosey along the street and check out different shops.

Even after the lifted restrictions, downtown has been pretty quiet, said DMLA Executive Director Lexi Smith. Shutting down the street for outdoor dining, similar to what it had to do in 2020, is a way to get people to see what downtown Moses Lake has to offer.

For the Aug. 26 open mic, community members are invited to take to the Sinkiuse Square stage and perform anything they’d like for the audience hanging out and picnicking on the grass. To sign up, text 509-770-1700 with a name and the act.

Events don’t end with the summer. The DMLA will return for Sip & Stroll, where downtown businesses host wineries, musicians and artists on Sept. 18.

“We’re looking forward to our last two events, and then Sip & Stroll is next and we can’t wait for that,” said executive director Lexi Smith.
