A Quincy woman was sentenced Tuesday in Grant County Superior Court to 60 months (five years) in prison for apparently driving drunk, speeding and killing a man in a 2018 collision.

Angela Perez Anaya, 51, was speeding north June 3, 2018, on Road P Northwest in a 2011 Cadillac CTS, failed to negotiate a curve between Martin Road Northwest and Road 13 Northwest, rolled four times and went several hundred feet off the road, according to police records. Her passenger, Jose Lozano, 48, died at the scene.

Anaya was injured, but walked to her Quincy home and was driven to Quincy Valley Medical Center. She was then taken to another hospital for a skull fracture and other injuries.

She allegedly told hospital staff she was in a collision near Interstate 90 and Adams Road, almost 15 miles from the actual collision, and didn’t tell responders there was a passenger. She allegedly appeared to be under the influence and smelled of alcohol at the Quincy hospital, according to police records.

Police spent more than three hours searching for the collision site before a deputy happened to travel further and found the wreckage and Lozano’s body, which was ejected. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Anaya was charged Jan. 22, 2019, and made a plea agreement with prosecutors June 28, 2021, to second-degree manslaughter and vehicular assault.
