Moses Lake announces 6-week road closure as part of travel stop construction
MOSES LAKE — A stretch of Sage Road on the west side of Moses Lake will be closed for six weeks beginning Monday as city crews ready the area for the construction of the new Love’s Travel Stop.
According to an announcement Thursday from the city of Moses Lake, a 1,000-foot-long segment of Sage Road from the intersection with Idaho Road and South Frontage Road to Sand Dunes Road will be closed from Aug. 9 through Sept. 20 so the road can be completely rebuilt.
The improvements will include new curbs and sidewalks, new pavement, improved storm drainage, a new water main and street lighting all designed to create a road built to withstand “heavy truck traffic,” according to the announcement.
According to city spokesperson Lynne Lynch, the road improvements are being paid for by Love’s as part of the overall 14.6-acre project, which will include a convenience store, a fueling station and a truck stop, as well as improvements to Interstate 90 onramps and offramps and a reorienting of local traffic.
“It is a part of their required improvements for the project,” Lynch wrote in an email to the Columbia Basin Herald.
Residents who live south of Sage Road will be able to get to their homes by taking a detour on Idaho Road and then Pritchard Road to Laguna Drive.
“The detour route will not affect residents wanting to go into town because they will be able to use Laguna Drive to access the freeway,” the announcement said.
