SOAP LAKE — The Masquers Theater company will hold auditions for its next play, “Moon Over Buffalo,” at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday at the theater, 322 E. Main Ave., Soap Lake.

“Moon Over Buffalo” follows the fortunes of a 1950s acting troupe that – to put it politely – is not in high demand, which is how it ended up in Buffalo. The troupe might have a chance at that big break, except the leading man has a little too much to drink, the troupe is breaking up and making up, and somebody gets tied up, literally.

The Masquers production is directed by Nick Mahaney, according to a Masquers press release.

The 1995 comedy was written by Ken Ludwig. The cast includes the husband and wife who own the troupe, her mom -- who has a small hearing problem -- their daughter and her fiance, a sweet young actress, the troupe’s attorney and an amateur producer.

Auditions are open to anyone who wants to try out, according to the press release, with what’s called a cold read. In a cold read, actors read directly from the script, with little to no advance preparation.

“Moon Over Buffalo” opens Oct. 15 and runs for three weekends. People who want more information can contact Mahaney at masquers.nick@gmail.com, or 509-989-2830.

The play originally was the finale of the Masquers 2019-20 season, but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
