Mayor, council, school board seats open in 2021

The November ballot includes many races in south Grant County and Adams County, including city councils, school boards, hospital boards, and fire districts.

Among those are the Mattawa mayor and four seats on the Mattawa City Council, the Othello mayor and three seats on the Othello City Council, three seats on the Othello School Board and the Royal City mayor seat.

The candidate filing period is May 17 through 21.

The Mattawa mayor and four council positions are four-year terms. Maria Celaya is the incumbent mayor, and councilors are Sylvia Barajas, Tony Acosta, Vicente Acosta and Wendy Lopez.

The Othello mayor position and council seats also are four-year terms. Incumbent mayor is Shawn Logan, and the council seats are held by Genna Dorow, John Lallas and Cory Everett.

Two Royal City City Council seats are up for election, along with the mayor’s, all for four-year terms. Kent Anderson is the incumbent mayor, and the council seats are held by Gary Fanning and Tiffany Workinger.

The three open seats on the Othello School Board are four-year terms. Incumbents are Jenn Stevenson, Ken Johnson and Lindsy Prows.

Two seats are open on the Royal School Board, both four-year terms. Justin Brown and Warren Small are the incumbents.

Wahluke School District patrons also will elect two board members, both for four-year terms. Lorraine Jenne and Jesse Chiprez are the incumbents.

One seat will be up for election on the Port of Mattawa board, for a six-year term. Glenn Leland is the incumbent. There’s also one seat open on the Port of Royal Slope board, also for a six-year term. The incumbent is Davey Miller. Voters will select one commissioner for the Port of Othello, for a six-year term. Deena Vietzke is the incumbent.

Royal Slope Fire and Rescue (Grant County Fire District 10) has one open seat, for a six-year term. Robert Weber is the incumbent. The fire district merged last year with Grant County Fire District 11.

There’s one open seat, for a six-year term, on the commission for Grant County Fire District 8, Mattawa. Richard Kummer is the incumbent. And there’s one seat up for election on the Adams County Fire District 5 commission, for a six year term. Peter Anderson is the incumbent.

Othello Community Hospital district patrons will elect one commissioner for a six-year term. Lynda Bowers is the incumbent.
