Weekend roundup: Ephrata baseball, softball both pull off sweeps
Softball
Ephrata 7, Moses Lake 5
The EHS Tigers held off a late run from the Moses Lake High School Chiefs to take the win in the first game of the doubleheader against Moses Lake Saturday. Jocelyn Eisen and Alexis Bicondova scored home runs for the Tigers. Rylee Peters held the mound, surrendering five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
Sidney Ries finished 2-4 from the plate for the Chiefs, adding a double and two earned runs. Taylor Hofheins added a double and one RBI, finishing 1-4 from the plate.
Ephrata 9, Moses Lake 8
At 6-6 after the first two innings and tied 8-8 after seven, the Tigers crossed the plate in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Moses Lake in the second game.
Paige Wood finished 4-5 from the plate with four runs earned, a double and a triple. Kylar Heston swatted a home run and a double and finished with a team-high three RBIs. Jocelyn Eisen finished with six K’s while allowing eight runs on seven hits from the mound for Ephrata.
Ciarrah Knoll knocked a home run for Moses Lake in the second game, finishing with a team-high three RBIs. Laurissa Martinez went 3-3 from the plate for the Chiefs with one RBI and one run earned. Brenna Rangel finished with six strikeouts and three runs earned off five hits coming in to pitch in relief.

Ephrata 13, Cascade 4
After Cascade High School pulled within one at 5-4 in the top of the fifth, the Tigers scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Gavin Burns finished the first game of the doubleheader 4-5 from the plate with a triple, two doubles, two RBIs and three earned runs. Brock Hussey finished 2-3 with two RBIs and a double, while Beau Dechenne added a triple and one RBI.
On the mound, Garet Hagy surrendered no runs on four hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work.
Ephrata 19, Cascade 0
The Tigers were on a mission in the second game, racking up 16 runs in the bottom of the first and prevailing after just four and a half innings. Burns and Dechenne combined for nine strikeouts, with Dechenne giving up just one hit.
Burns continued his hot day at the plate, ending the game 3-3 with three RBIs and a pair of doubles. Winston Roberts added three RBIs and two runs earned with a double, while Ethan Gustafson went 2-3 with two runs earned and two RBIs.

Boys soccer
Othello 4, Clarkston 0
The Othello High School Huskies outshot Clarkston High School 29-2 in the 4-0 win last Thursday to move to 4-0 for the season and first place in the Greater Spokane League. Christian Torres scored a pair for Othello and Anthony Ontiveros and Luis Cruz added one goal apiece. Jose Galvan had two assists while Miguel Ramirez finished with one.
Erick Sandoval finished with two saves in goal for an Othello team with three shutouts on the season already. Next up for the Huskies is a home match against Pullman Thursday afternoon.
Moses Lake 2, Cashmere 1
Alex Landa scored for Moses Lake to force the game into extra time at 1-1 against Cashmere High School Saturday. Reynaldo Rodriguez came up with the game-winning golden goal for Moses Lake.
Royal 1, Wenatchee 5
Eliseo Romero scored a penalty with just under 30 minutes to play in the second half, trimming the deficit to 4-1, but Royal High School was never able to recover after falling behind 2-0 to Wenatchee High School on Friday night. Royal moves to 1-3 for the season after beating Wahluke Tuesday.

Men’s basketball
Big Bend Community College 75, Columbia Basin College 84
The Vikings outscored Columbia Basin 38-32 in the second half but were unable to come back in the final 20 minute. Jahvonta’ Jones finished with 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and three turnovers.
Keenan Miller added 18 on 4-8 from three-point range, while DJ Frye led Big Bend on the glass with 12 rebounds. Chandler Pincock poured in nine points to lead the reserves.
