Applications now available for business tax deferral
EPHRATA — Businesses with losses in 2020 due to COVID-19 may be eligible for a deferral on their 2021 property taxes.
Grant County Treasurer Darryl Pheasant said the deferral was approved by the Washington Legislature on Friday and business owners have until April 30 to apply.
“Businesses that apply for the program and establish a payment plan with the Grant County Treasurer will not have interest and penalties applied to their taxes due, as long as the business remains compliant with the payment plan,” Pheasant said.
To be eligible, businesses must show they suffered a revenue loss of at least 25% from 2019 to 2020, Pheasant said. Qualifying properties must be used primarily for business purposes and set up a payment plan with the treasurer’s office.
The payment plan starts in May and must be completed by November, Pheasant said. After Nov. 30, any unpaid taxes would be subject to penalties and fees.
