Newhouse announces virtual info nights for military service academies

| September 23, 2020 1:00 AM

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Sunnyside, has announced four events where young men and women hoping to enroll in a U.S. military service academy can get information about the application and congressional nomination process.

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy other than the United States Coast Guard Academy, an applicant must meet legal eligibility requirements and receive a congressional nomination.

“One of my greatest honors as your representative in Congress is the annual opportunity to nominate students from Central Washington to our nation’s prestigious military academies,” Newhouse said in a statement. “The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.”

Info nights specific to each branch will be held Sept. 28 for the U.S. Air Force Academy, Sept. 29 for the U.S. Naval Academy, Sept. 30 for the U.S. Military Academy, and Oct. 1 for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the events will be hosted virtually via Zoom, 3-4 p.m. each day. A link to access the events will be sent via email to participants who go to tinyurl.com/y52atfdu to RSVP.
