Museum to sponsor Rusty Mammoth sale
MOSES LAKE — Watercolors, paintings, china, stoneware, furniture and miniature antique books will be among the items looking for new homes at the Rusty Mammoth Sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The sale is sponsored by the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center. The sale will be on the lawn in front of the Moses Lake Civic Center, 401 S. Balsam St. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, shoppers will be asked to wear masks and observe social distancing protocols.
The inaugural Rusty Mammoth sale was in 2017, prompted by the donation of original paintings from a local artist in the process of moving. The sale is built around that idea, that everybody has things they no longer need or want or don’t have room for, but that are not really thrift store material.
It’s named after the life-size sculpture of a mammoth skeleton, built from scrap metal, that has been on display since the museum opened at its current location. The mammoth has become the museum’s mascot for its fundraising activities.
Proceeds from the sale go toward the museum’s family and educational programming. That includes the monthly Free Family Saturday series, the Adult Swim project series, and partnerships with other organizations to present educational programs and activities.
