OTHELLO — A hearing to gather public opinion on a draft report on stop sign policy in Othello is scheduled for the Sept. 14 council meeting. The draft report, available on the city website, othellowa.gov, presents some guidelines for placing stop signs.

City engineer Shawn O’Brien said city policy on stop signs hasn’t always been consistent, and city officials are working to make it more consistent.

Public input is being solicited because the rules will be used to determine where traffic control will be used in the future.

Other recommendations include revising parking regulations if parking is impeding visibility at intersections, installing additional street lights to improve nighttime visibility and establishing setbacks for trees and bushes at intersections.

Comments and questions can be emailed to O’Brien at sobrien@othello.wa.gov.
