Wall Street opens higher ahead of a busy week for earnings

| October 19, 2020 7:06 AM

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are edging higher on Wall Street at the beginning of another busy week for corporate earnings news. The S&P 500 climbed 0.5% in the first few minutes of trading Monday. The benchmark index is coming off its third straight weekly gain. IBM will report its latest quarterly results after the closing bell, while Netflix, Comerica and Procter & Gamble will follow on Tuesday. Traders were encouraged to see that China’s economy grew at a nearly 5% annual pace in the last quarter as it emerged from pandemic lockdowns. Prospects for getting another U.S. stimulus package done before the election seemed to fade.
