TROPICAL WEATHER — Louisiana residents are once again dodging overturned cars on the roads, trudging through knee-deep water to find their homes flooded and pledging to rebuild after Hurricane Delta blew through the besieged part of the state. Delta made landfall Friday with top winds of 100 mph. It then moved over Lake Charles, a city where Hurricane Laura damaged nearly every building in late August. VIRUS-OUTBREAK-INDIA — India’s confirmed coronavirus toll crossed 7 million with a number of new cases dipping in recent weeks, even as health experts warn of mask and distancing fatigue setting in. The moment epitomized how Friday went: The Los Angeles Lakers, even when they got within a few seconds of winning a championship, couldn’t knock out the Miami Heat.
