SENT/DEVELOPING:

ELECTION 2020 - TRUMP: Trump set out to get his campaign back on track Friday, a week after he was sidelined with the coronavirus. As questions linger about his health, he began speaking directly to voters, on the radio, less than four weeks from Election Day, and he eyed a return to travel as soon as Monday. SENT: 400 words, photos.

VIRUS OUTBREAK-TRUMP-TEST: It is a basic, crucial question and one the White House refuses to answer: When was President Donald Trump’s last negative test for the coronavirus before he tested positive last week? The answer to that question would reveal vital details about the course of the president’s illness as well as when he may have been contagious and whom else he may have exposed. The White House refusal to answer makes it hard not to wonder what they’re hiding, given the other details they’ve shared. SENT: 1000 words, photos.

VIRUS OUTBREAK -CONGRESS: The White House is boosting its offer in up-and-down COVID-19 aid talks in hopes of an agreement before the election, even as Trump’s most powerful GOP ally in the Senate said Congress is unlikely to deliver relief by then. SENT: 700 words, photos.

PELOSI-25TH AMENDMENT: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled legislation Friday that would allow Congress to intervene under the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove the president. The bill would set up a commission to assess the president’s ability to lead the country and ensure a continuity of government. Coming just weeks before the Nov. 3 election, with no hopes of the bill becoming law, the rollout was quickly dismissed by Trump allies as a stunt. SENT: 650 words, photos.

PRESIDENTIAL -POWER -AP EXPLAINS: President Trump spent several days at Walter Reed Medical Center for treatment of the coronavirus, and has since returned to the White House. Throughout it all, he remained in control, choosing not to invoke the 25th Amendment, which details how presidential power can be transferred, either temporarily or more permanently, in the event a president is unable to do the job. AP Explains the constitutional amendment. SENT:760 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -BIDEN -COURT EXPANSION: There are few topics that Joe Biden isn’t willing to opine on — except the Supreme Court. The Democratic presidential nominee and his running mate, Kamala Harris, are refusing demands from Republicans — and some fellow Democrats — to say whether they would expand the number of justices on the Supreme Court. SENT: 1,000 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -TWITTER -STRONGER -MEASURES: Twitter is imposing tough new rules that restrict candidates from declaring premature victory and tighten its measures against spreading misinformation, calling for political violence and spreading thoughtless commentary in the days leading up to and following the Nov. 3 U.S. election. SENT: 500 words.

ELECTION 2020 -FLORIDA VOTERS: A federal judge has denied a motion to extend voter registration in Florida even though a computer meltdown on the final day of registration might have prevented thousands of potential voters from taking part in November’s presidential election. SENT: 500 words.

SUPREME COURT -POLITICAL STORM: The Supreme Court might prefer to avoid politics, but politics has a way of finding the court. A business-as-usual approach is how the justices like it, but they are facing a brewing political storm that could peak after Election Day if they are called upon to decide the election’s outcome. SENT: 1000 words, photos.
