Othello women's group to sponsor food drive

OTHELLO — A local women’s group will sponsor a fundraiser for the Othello Food Bank on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Xi Beta Xi will collect food and money donations from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the food bank, 949 E. Main St.

Organizer Linda Brady said it’s the 11th year for the fundraiser, which usually is held at the Othello Eagles Aerie. But 2020 being what it is, Xi Beta Xi members had to change it up and decided on a “drive-by” fundraiser, Brady said.

People can drive up and drop off their monetary donations, or donations of cans, boxes or bags of non-perishable food. Donors will receive a “goodie bag,” and will be entered in a prize drawing, she said.

Xi Beta Xi is a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a social and cultural organization for women. The Othello chapter was looking for a community service project and opted for an auction supporting the food bank, Brady said. The response was so positive that chapter members decided to make it an annual event on the second Tuesday in October.
