Man fatally shot in apartment stairwell near Tacoma

PARKLAND, Wash. (AP) — A man was fatally shot in an apartment complex south of Tacoma.

At 2:18 a.m. Tuesday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department responded to 911 calls reporting shots fired at the Autumnwood North Apartments in Parkland.

Police found a man at the bottom of the stairwell, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson Ed Troyer.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A witness told deputies that an unidentified possible suspect was seen running from the apartment complex after the shots were fired, KOMO-TV reported.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.
