Makaio Pooley
Makaio Martin Pooley was born on July 18, 2017, in Moses Lake, Washington. He passed in his home on Nov. 22, 2020, from complications associated with his epilepsy. Makaio had his first seizure at three months of age and was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome at 10 months. Dravet Syndrome is a rare, catastrophic, lifelong, genetic form of epilepsy that is associated with frequent and/or prolonged seizures that begins in the first year of life. There is no known cure. But there is hope as advances are being made.
Makaio is survived by his father, Matthew Pooley, mother, Afton Pooley (Allard), and elder brother, Makino Pooley. As well as great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Despite struggles with his condition, Makaio loved to run wild and climb on everything he could. He was rarely spotted without one or more of his favorite chewy bracelets. He had recently started pre-school and was absolutely thrilled with the bus rides and interactions. His laughter and wily smiles came from a place of pure joy and infected everyone. He was always ready to tackle you with a hug, laced with a hair pull or a quick nibble. He gave the best slobber kisses you would ever know. Although he could not say it, you could see the love in his eyes. He adored his mother, emulated his brother, and delighted in getting a rise out of his father. All of which is deeply missed.
A viewing will be held Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Kayser's Chapel of Memories.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family suggests that donations be made to the Dravet Syndrome Foundation in Makaio's name at: https://www.dravetfoundation.org/donate/.
