Small businesses around the world are in trouble. Whether they survive will affect not just economies but the fabric of communities as well. AP’s Small Business Struggles is examining how the pandemic is impacting small businesses in a dozen locations around the world. SMALL BUSINESS STRUGGLES-LONDON — Barber Matthew Jones was just recovering from weeks of lost business when he learned London was going back into lockdown and he’d have to close his shop — again. Now he and other small business owners on Broadway Market in London’s trendy Hackney neighborhood are doing whatever they can to survive. While small businesses all over the world are struggling as the virus forces many to close outright while also remaking consumer habits, many in the U.K. are facing the double whammy of the pandemic and the economic uncertainty caused by Britain’s exit from the European Union.
