SOAP LAKE — Residents of Soap Lake found themselves without water for about an hour Saturday after contractors damaged a water main, requiring city officials to shut the water off in order to repair the pipe.

According to a statement posted on the Soap Lake city website, contractors doing road repair work accidentally damaged a water main Saturday morning.

Water supply to a large area was shut off, and there was low water pressure on the east side of town because the East Water Tower had been emptied for maintenance.

City water was not contaminated, and the broken main was fixed within an hour, the city said.
