MATTAWA — Building activity continues at a brisk pace in Mattawa.

City planner Darryl Pearcy told Mattawa City Council members in a meeting Nov. 5 that the city has received a final site plan for the proposed Dollar General retail store, and the project’s final environmental checklist. Those included some changes to the building’s heating-cooling system to reduce noise and its possible impact on nearby residential neighborhoods. Pearcy didn’t give a start date or a time frame for construction.

Pearcy also said city officials have received a preliminary site plan for a new Burger King, which was announced at the end of October. The project is in the design phase, Pearcy said, with construction possibly beginning next year.

Additionally, a final site plan has been submitted for a new residential development, called Mattawa West, Pearcy said. City officials have received inquiries about the farmworker housing project, also on the west side of town. That project is only in the early planning stages, Pearcy said.

“A pretty good burst of construction activity,” Pearcy said.
