ELECTION 2020-TRUMP LEGAL CHALLENGES — Trump says he’ll take the presidential election to the Supreme Court, but it’s unclear what he means in a country in which vote tabulations routinely continue beyond Election Day, and states largely set the rules for when the count has to end. ELECTION 2020-GLOBAL REACTION — Waking up to the news that the winner of the U.S. election might not be known for a while was jarring to a planet weaned on that most American of exports: speed. ELECTION 2020-VOTECAST — Voters in the U.S. presidential election faced a public health crisis and a wounded economy, but neither candidate emerged as the clear choice to handle both of those issues. CLIMATE-US — The United States formally left the Paris Agreement, a global pact forged five years ago to avert the threat of catastrophic climate change. The move was long threatened by Trump and triggered by his administration a year ago. The accord aims to keep the increase in average temperatures worldwide “well below” 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. Scientists say that any rise beyond 2 degrees Celsius could have a devastating impact on large parts of the world, raising sea levels, stoking tropical storms and worsening droughts and floods.
