In rural South Carolina, school buses equipped with Wi-Fi are rolling out to poor communities to help children do schoolwork. Two dozen schools in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, have started extending internet service into their parking lots so families can download assignments. And the Los Angeles Unified School district is investing $100 million to provide devices and internet connections for all students. With schools shut down around the country for the coronavirus outbreak, and schoolwork moving online, districts and governments are racing to give the millions of children in homes without internet a chance of keeping up.
